Setting the Mood: The Perfect Disney Fall

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

This. This is it. The dream. The perfect fall day:

Okay fine- that and every other image on my 'Scenes of Fall' board on Pinterest.

There's nothing I love more than Disney, and there's no season more charming than fall- so mixing the two together is a recipe for success in my book. With things being so strange in the world this year, I think it's time to reward ourselves for surviving this by allowing fall to start just a bit early; don't you think?

Here are my tips and tricks for setting the mood for the perfect Disney fall day or night.

Decorate

You have to start with a space that's worthy of a Disney fall day. DIYs are such a fun, cheap, and (sometimes) easy way to incorporate a little magic into your autumn. I've compiled some of the most adorable ways to DIY your Disney fall (or just buy it off Etsy if you prefer that route) in my previous post here:

Get Lit

One of the best things about fall is the scents that accompany the season: warm apples, crisp air, ground cinnamon, and pumpkins are just a few of those that I love. Fall isn't fall without candles. The flicker of a gentle flame is something that just goes with the season. So here are some of my quintessential fall faves:

Bath and Body Works' Leaves - This is the best fall scent that isn't too apple-ey or pumpkin-ey. It's a nice mixture of Crisp Red Apple, Golden Nectar, and Warm Clove Spice. Bonus- it comes in soaps, lotions, and a ton of other forms, too.

Bath and Body Works' Pumpkin Apple - the quintessential fall fragrance, this candle is the perfect mixture of Red Delicious Apple, Fall Pumpkin, Fresh Ground Cinnamon, and Clove Buds. For those of you who, like me, can't decide between Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin or Honeycrisp Apple, Pumpkin Apple is the amazing compromise between the two.

Diptyque's Fue de Bois - although pricey for a candle, once you smell this sophisticated smell you'll understand why. This candle smells exactly like a fire burning wood on a cold fall day. It's perfect for all season, and works for winter, too!

Nest's Pumpkin Chai - fan of the PSL (pumpkin spice latte)? You'll love this scent with a blend of wild pumpkin, masala chai, cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. A sophisticated take on the pumpkin scents of fall.

The Dancing Wick's Apple Cider- a mouth-watering blend of mulled cider, cinnamon sticks, clove, a twist of orange peel, brown sugar, vanilla beans, and warm wood.

Cuse Candles' Apples & Bourbon- these candles are completely customizable- from the scents to the labels and even the color of wax! No matter what your decor is, they're sure to fit in. This scent is perfect for people who are looking for the sweet scent of apples but want some added sophistication. (P.S.- look at the price!)

Throw on a Blanket

Any will do- but if you're in the market for a new blanket, might I suggest checking your local TJMaxx, HomeGoods, or Costco? If you know me or any of my family, obviously Costco is where our allegiance lies- but HomeGoods and (sometimes) TJMaxx have super fluffy throw blankets for sale in prints to match any decor.

Dress Up (well...down)

No chilly fall day or night is complete without a cozy pair of sweats to cuddle up on the couch in. But being comfortable doesn't mean you have to sacrifice looking good! Here are 3 of the coziest and cutest sweatpants to live in this year:

FreePeople's Sunny Skinny Sweatpants - these soft and breathable sweats hug in all the right places to keep you cute and comfy at the same time.

Champion's Reverse Weave Joggers - these classic joggers go with everything. A staple in your sweats wardrobe.

Lounge's Teddy Sweats - these are jaw-droppers. The minute I set my eyes on these beauties, I knew I had to have them. It doesn't get more comfy or snuggly than this.

Skip the Tricks & Make Some Treats

While fall candles are an amazing addition, nothing can substitute for the smells of fall baking. While candy corn, sugar cookies, and those little candies that look lime pumpkins (do those even have a name?) are dry essentials to keep around for any movie marathon, here are a few recipes that will make your house smell like a home:

Apple Cider- this one is a simple but amazing recipe. Plus, you can keep it in the fridge and heat it as needed to make your house smell all amazing over and over again!

Mini Pumpkin Pies- these are the perfect bite-sized pies, to give you just a bit of the taste, but not all of the calories or the fullness.

Apple Crisp- the smell of baked apples, cinnamon, and sugar are three of my favorite things, so this one's a perfect mix. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (Tillamook Old-Fashioned Vanilla is the BOMB).

Snickerdoodle Apple Cobbler- sugar on top of more sugar. With apples. I'm down.

Apple Pie Fries- looking for a treat you can just put out and let family/guests have at their own convenience? Look no further. This recipe is the perfect fall substitute for chips and dip at any gathering.

Pumpkin Bread with Brown Butter Maple Icing- you can tell I love apples (more than pumpkin, sorry not sorry), but this is one recipe that gets even me excited. Plus, this recipe serves as something you can have for dessert and then have for breakfast the next morning!

New England Apple Cider Cake- a combination of some of the greatest fall treats: cake, apple cider, and icing. You can't go wrong with this rich, creamy fall dessert.

Turn On a Classic

Disney+ now makes watching these classics easier than ever- plus, don't forget that since acquiring Hulu, Disney now technically includes amazing titles like Sabrina: The Teenage Witch and so many more. Here are some of the best fall Disney classics:

Pocahontas

Remember the Titans

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

Winnie the Pooh and The Blustery Day

Hocus Pocus

Halloweentown

Halloweentown II (Kalabar's Revenge)

Halloweentown High

The Haunted Mansion

Twitches (and Twitches Too)

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Phantom of the Megaplex

The Ghosts of Buxley Hall

Coco

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Don't Look Under the Bed

Under Wraps

Mom's Got a Date With a Vampire

Let's face it: nothing about this year has been ideal. Which is why it seems like most people are all-too-eager to get their fall on. So instead of fighting it, embrace the season. What else do we have to look forward to? Plus, this gives you the perfect excuse to be an introvert or bring your close friends over. It's the perfect cure for the coronavirus blues.
